The Great Propeth

The Great Propeth is an interactive generative artwork combining symbolic imagery, game mechanics, and blockchain technology. A system of fifteen cards produces over 21,000 possible outcomes, each generating a unique prophecy permanently recorded on Ethereum. The project required the design of both the visual language and the underlying logic governing every possible revelation.

Aesthetics.

It may seem that my works are defined by a film noir aesthetic, but that’s only partially true. I try to collide different styles to create unique effects, drawing primarily from the experience of cinema, but also television - where in a stream of consciousness, all elements blend into a new, chaotic logic.

The Great Propeth is my most interactive and technical project, so I wanted to avoid “stylization,” and thus the lie that would come with translating a noir aesthetic into a user interface. What fit perfectly instead was the shamelessness of the 90s, a time when technology amazed us, and we truly believed the future could be magnificent.

Logic.

The project consists of 15 cards. Each one is equally rare. What makes it unique is the arrangement. When minting three cards, it’s not only about which ones you draw, but also the order in which they appear. Each card contains three possible zones of influence, and each of those zones has two variants. This means that the number of possible combinations for arranging three cards is actually 21,840. Each of these arrangements generates a unique fourth card that records your fortune on-chain.

Tech.

Thanks to the tremendous help of Orb, a fully custom smart contract was developed to realize the project exactly as envisioned.

The 15 cards that form The Arcana of the Great Propeth are implemented as individual ERC-1155 editions. Each card exists as an independent digital asset and can be collected, transferred, or managed separately.

Based on a combination of three selected cards, a fourth card is generated from The Revelations of the Great Propeth collection as an ERC-721 asset. While the visual background is stored on IPFS, the prophecy itself is written entirely on-chain as SVG.

As a result, the fortune you receive is permanently recorded on Ethereum and remains accessible even if IPFS or any external hosting infrastructure were to disappear.
