WAYFINDING + MOTION DESIGN + VISUAL IDENTITY

To NIE JEST Magazyn

To NIE JEST Magazyn (This Is Not a Warehouse) was an exhibition at the Museum of the City of Gdynia that transformed the idea of a museum storage facility into a public exhibition space. Presenting over 500 objects from the museum’s collection, the project revealed artworks, design pieces, textiles, sculptures, and curiosities that are rarely seen by visitors. Inspired by the structure of open museum storage, the exhibition offered a unique insight into collecting, conservation, and the hidden life of museum collections.

The visual identity for This Is Not a Warehouse was designed to balance the refined character of an art exhibition with the technical language of museum storage. A restrained monochromatic palette kept the focus on the objects themselves, while graphic elements inspired by inventory systems, storage markings, and archival documentation guided visitors through the exhibition. The identity transformed functional museum references into a coherent visual language that connected every part of the visitor experience.

The exhibition design drew inspiration directly from the architecture of museum storage facilities. A modular system of metal mesh panels and aluminum profiles created flexible display structures reminiscent of the large storage racks used to house artworks behind the scenes. By adapting existing exhibition elements into a new spatial arrangement, the design blurred the line between storage and display, allowing visitors to experience the collection in a way usually reserved for museum staff.
